Green Pest Control in Los Angeles, CA

California’s ever increasing environmental awareness has Los Angeles demanding more in the way of green products and services. Pest control is no exception. People want safer ways of controlling ants and spiders and other pests without worrying about their families or pets being exposed to chemicals. Los Angeles, CA

Understanding Green Pest Control:

Many of us assume the words “natural” and “green” indicates that a product is safe or safer than a synthetic (unnatural) product, and that it’s better for the environment. Pest control and non-toxic are words that don’t fit very well together. In California, pest control companies are not allowed to use the word “safe” in regards to any pest control product be it organic or standard. If any pest control company in California uses the word “safe,” in describing a product, it’s illegal.

Companies both large and small are seeing the importance of “Going Green.” Hearts services many commercial buildings and businesses in Los Angeles.

Practicing Integrated Pest Management

It doesn’t matter whether a product is considered green, natural, and organic, or is, in fact, synthetic, if it can kill an insect, it’s toxic. At Hearts, we have a “First Do No Harm” attitude. Our green products have been approved by EcoWise Certified, an environmental and health-conscious company that sets green standards and practices prevention-based pest control.
Our service professionals are EcoWise Certified. They employ a variety of common sense techniques to control pests effectively, providing prevention-based pest control that minimizes the need to use pesticides.
Your EcoWise Certified service technician will explain how the use of certain pest control products combined with IPM (Integrated Pest Management), especially during the heavy ant season, can be a bit more effective and last a little longer than strictly organic/natural products.

Going Green with our Greenthumb Maintenance Plan

Our Greenthumb program differentiates itself as one where you take charge of what we do. You are in control and we let you decide what you consider to be “safe.” We will, however, provide guidance without taking away your right to decide what is best for your family, your health concerns, and your employees or tenants. Hearts Pest Management is the one and only pest control company in Los Angeles and Southern California recognized by California’s EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) as a leader in Integrated Pest Management. We practice I.P.M. by using a variety of methods, other than pesticides, and implement them first, such as a full and complete inspection of your property. We monitor and check for areas that may need an “exclusion” to stop pests from entering, as well as habitat modification that will deter pests from your home and/or business. This reduces the reliance on pesticides and minimizes harmful effects on the environment.

Is “Natural” Safe?

Be wary of the word “natural” because natural doesn’t always mean safe.

Natural poisons have been around for centuries: arsenic, mushrooms, anthrax, mercury, ricin, strychnine, just to name a few. They’re all natural and organic! Several of these were used and some still are for controlling pests. Be careful of someone stating their products are all natural, it doesn’t mean that they are non-toxic. Read the labels. At Hearts, we have nothing to hide; we post our product ingredient list all over our website. With our Greenthumb program, we only use products that have been approved and tested by EcoWise Certified’s tough environmental and health standards.

Green Pest Prevention

Hearts Service Professionals are EcoWise Certified for Green Pest Control

Pests don’t like clean houses or yards. They enjoy messy clutter and moldy, dirty places. The first line of defense in green pest control is keeping your home and yard clean on a regular basis. Here are some things you can do to keep pests at bay: • Fix leaky faucets. • Pick up outdoor debris. • Seal cracks and gaps. • Make sure pets are on preventative treatment for fleas (especially during late summer and fall). • Use the pooper scooper often. • Vacuum carpet. • Keep kitchen counters and cupboards free of crumbs. • Check the children’s rooms frequently for crumbs and food wrappers. • During heavy ant season, place pet food bowls on top of a baking pan filled with ½ inch of water. Sometimes, however, it doesn’t matter how clean you keep your home, the ants are going to come no matter what. In Los Angeles and the surrounding counties, there’s a reason for that – Argentine Ants. This invasive species has built three super colonies worldwide and your county/city is sitting right on top of one.

Some ant species like Argentine ants are year-round pests that are hard to control with over-the-counter products.

It’s hard to control Argentine ants with “Do-it-Yourself” methods because unlike other ants, they have multiple queens. When Argentine ants see Borax or the Windex bottle, a queen will break off and start another colony somewhere else on your property. We can help! We have a maintenance plan to fit your budget. Many of our Los Angeles customers on our Greenthumb program choose monthly visits in spring and summer, and then switch to every other month during the winter. You can even customize our green program which offers a sub-set of EcoWise approved products.

Gotcha! Hearts green pest control takes care of spiders and we remove webs too!
