Pest Control in Carmel Valley - San Diego, CA

San Diego Carmel Valley

Residents of San Diego’s Carmel Valley often frequent the Bay Club - A family oriented, multi-purpose, resort type facility.

Hearts Pest Management Serves Carmel Valley San Diego, a relatively new, open-spaced community situated between the Torrey Pines Reserve, Fairbanks Ranch, and Penasquitos Creek.

A bit of history - Prior to 1983, when the first homes were built, the land was used for agriculture and horse farms.

The name ‘Carmel’ comes from the Carmelite Sisters of Mercy. The nuns established a dairy farm and monastery on the south side of Carmel Creek during the early 1900’s.

Carmel Valley has become one of the most coveted places to live in San Diego County.

Spacious homes nestled between rolling hills and canyons in small communities and highly ranked schools, make Carmel Valley a wonderful place to live and raise a family.

Carmel Valley residents in 92130 enjoy a perfect, temperate climate with moderate temperatures all year long and our Green Pest Management Program.

All this beautiful weather coupled with Carmel Valley’s open space attracts insects and wildlife.

When food is low, both insects and rodents come crawling into your home in search of food and water, and in the case of rats, shelter.

Even newer homes can have gaps from wiring, air conditioning units, etc. where mice and rats are able to squeeze through and make their way indoors.

You may wonder if pest control is even needed during winter and the answer is yes, most definitely.

There are certain insects and critters such as mice and rats that are prevalent during California’s winter months - and, because of our mild climate, insects are plentiful year-round.

Our service professionals are EcoWise Certified for organic applications and they practice IPM – Integrated Pest Management solutions for all our customers.

Spider Control in San Diego’s Carmel Valley

Spiders are solitary creatures. Not like ants which are social and take bait back to a colony to share with their brothers and sisters.

When Hearts service professionals provide a spider treatment, they actually look for hiding places and eliminate spiders on contact.

Hearts will also web dust around the perimeter of the home to get rid of unsightly webs.

Spider treatments involve treating and eliminating a spider´s food source – insects.

If you have a lot of spiders, it’s because there are plenty of insects in and around the home.

However, because spiders are so solitary, and are good at hiding (especially black and brown widows), it is not uncommon to see webs soon after a treatment.

Hearts eliminates as many spiders as possible, but - if you only have a quarterly service or a bi-monthly, you may want to consider monthly maintenance during spring and summer months when insect and arachnid activity is especially high.

A monthly maintenance plan during these months is recommended with many customers opting for bi-monthly during the winter. This type of plan will maintain your property and keep spiders and other pests away.

Ant Control in San Diego’s Carmel Valley

Hearts Pest Management specializes in treating for ants utilizing either traditional pest control or organic methods, depending on the infestation and one’s personal preference.

We can also tailor an ant treatment with a combination of both, such as a low impact on the outside of the home and organic products on the inside.

Did you know? Ants spread diseases such as salmonella and staph? They can spread these diseases throughout your home when they crawl along your counters and get into the food!

The most common ant in Southern California is the invasive Argentine ant. This species has a super colony that runs up and down the coast and spreads to surrounding inland cities. For Carmel Valley residents, it’s like living on a giant anthill!

Do-it-yourself treatments are ineffective in treating for Argentine ants because they have more than one queen in a colony. This makes it easy for them to break off into multiple colonies when threatened. Whole colonies can be moved within hours!

Our professionals are experts at finding where ants are coming from and where their nests are located. We provide Integrated Pest Management (IPM) solutions to maintain and keep ants outside and away from your home.

Landscape Pest Management

Aphids are green in color, depending on the species, with long slender mouthparts that they use to pierce and suck out the fluids from tender parts of a plant, usually the leaves. Large populations of aphids will cause leaves to discolor, turning them yellowish-brown.

Another way plants are damaged by aphids is from the honeydew an aphid emits from its rear. Honeydew is a sticky substance that causes black, sooty-looking fungus, to grow on the leaves and stems of plants.

Besides damage to plants, aphids are a two-fold type of pest because the more aphids you have, the more ants come around in search of the sweet honeydew aphids provide! That’s why you’ll often see plants with ant infestations; the ants are being fed by aphids.

In exchange for honeydew, aphids are protected by ants and are actually "herded" into safe areas from predators.

This ant behavior is called "farming" and gives an ant colony a stable food source. If you treat for aphids, you´ll have fewer ants.

garden snail and leaf

Snails can be a real nuisance; they tend to congregate in damp, humid areas under boards, stones and potted plants.

Hearts Pest Management treats a wide variety of these landscape pests including whitefly, fungus, fleas, grubs, and gophers and squirrels.

We provide landscape inspections free of charge and we now offer a rose pruning and care service.

Rat and Mice Control

Rats only need an opening ¼ inch in diameter to gnaw and widen until they are able to squeeze through and make their way indoors. Both old and new homes have openings where rats can get in. These include areas around drainpipes, cables, power lines, and air conditioning units, just to name a few.

What Rats Want

If you live close to a canyon or other open area, rats will become pests very quickly. They enter the home in search of food and water. A female rat can have several nests at the same time, all within close proximity to water.

Roof rat

Roof rats are excellent climbers. They enter the home through small holes and nest in attics.

norway rat and babies

Norway rats prefer to build their nest on lower floors and under ground level.

Pet food is a favorite of rats and they can smell it from long distances. Leaving dog or cat food out at night will definitely attract them. If you have a dog, it’s important to clean up their poop on a regular basis because rats will find the little bits of food in dog feces quite nutritious!

Water; rats need water to survive. Leaky sprinkler systems and outdoor faucets provide water for rats.

Cans overflowing or with loose lids is an easy target not just for rats but other wildlife in search of food.

Pipe in wall

Openings around pipes are an easy entry way for rats and mice.

Another source of food for rats is fallen fruit. If you have fruit trees of any kind, it’s a good idea to pick up any fruit that falls to the ground. Rats can smell rotting fruit from a distance.

Nesting places: Attics, crawl spaces, corners and rafters of a garage (especially if there’s newspaper around for bedding) are all shelters for pregnant rats to set up home and make your casa their casa.

Hearts Pest Management provides free rodent inspections for Carmel Valley residents and commercial businesses. We will block off any access points where rats and mice have entered, perform attic clean-outs and provide monthly rodent baiting service.
