Hearts Pest Management is gradually building a clientele of charities and non-profitt organizations that are happy to work with a pest control company supportive of their mission statements. In difficult economic times, we continue to support 501c tax-exempt organizations on the local, national and international level.

Company Benefits Create a Workforce that is Not A Burden

Here in southern California, we are trying to make a difference. We begin at home, believing strongly that our own workers should not need to rely on charity by becoming part of “the working poor.” We provide our employees with salaries composed of a variety of compensations so as to have a good living standard. We are unique in providing them with medical, sick and vacation benefits equal or better than in the white collar market with benefits starting on the first day of employment. We believe strongly in creating a workforce that is not a burden to society but rather motivated and able to help others.

In relation to our work itself, by being an industry leader promoting green pest control service for many years now, we hope to raise the level of professionalism in support of our environment and also special needs populations with particular concerns about pest control treatments due to unique sensitivities and liabilities. This company history has enabled us to win service agreements with residential treatment centers for bed bugs and organic and green pest control service of a local 300 bed senior care facility.

This is one example of where Hearts Pest Management is finding arrangements that allow us to provide reasonable pest control services while also creating arrangements that work for charitable organizations that have donation shortfalls, especially in this economic environment.

Focused Charitable Donations

We believe in giving priority to charities that are supported by our pest control customers. For example, we have donated to the American Breast Cancer Walk each year at the request of one of our customers. We would entertain other requests that come our way.

Given the history of the chemical industries which have brought tremendous modernization and comfort to people worldwide, but sometimes at the price of environmental damage, we believe that as a pest control company it is important to make a statement by supporting organizations such as EcoWise Certified, The Sierra Club and other environmental organizations.

International Aid

We are beginning to assist with international aid as well. Recently, we donated to The Jaffa Institute and received a very nice letter stating “Due to your generosity, The Jaffa Institute is able to continue educaitonal and recreational enrichment programs to children so they can break the cycle of bitter poverty they were born into… immediate relief, both physical and emotional is being provided to children in crisis – removed from their homes by welfare authorities due to severe parental neglect and abuse – through the warm, home environment of our Neve Ofer House.”

Blood Donations

Hearts Pest Management has joined a select group of socially responsible companies offering such unique benefits as vacation time add-ons for each blood donation. Our blood banks are often in short supply and we hope that we can set an example here by encouraging employees to think about ways they can donate that result in a win-win given their other commitments.

Perspective on Social Welfare

As a former social worker, I (Gerry Weitz, owner/operator of Hearts Pest Management) spent many years working in addictions counseling and community mental health. I believe this perspective helps us to understand the needs, resources and responsibilities of public service organizations. This experience has helped us to win service agreements in the medical and community services sector. We understand the needs and concerns of patients and families, doing our best to provide sensitive inspection and treatment services, respecting your staff and clients.

As a child growing up I often heard stories from my parents of depression era poverty and their personal efforts to relieve suffering in simple ways such as taking in children and serving soup on the street. The grandparents had harsher stories of war related poverty and the kindness of strangers that literally saved their lives.

Admittedly, I often feel like I haven’t done enough.

I hope that as we grow and expand our pest control service in southern California that we will do more work among non-profit organizations while extending charitable oportunities.
