If you are visiting the San Francisco East Bay area, take a morning to walk through the Ruth Bancroft Gardens in Walnut Creek. You can easily spend 2-3 hours wondering through the gardens. I was luck the day I arrived as they were exhibiting the works of local sculptures.
Here are a view of the succulents, cacti, ponds, local shrubs and trees that I found dotting the paths.

Thursday October 6, 2011Posted by gerryweitz Fascinated not only by its’ ambitious title, but also by the breathe of topics within entomology, such that I had never before encountered, I grabbed Insectopia from the Barnes and Nobles shelf and “platzed” myself down on the floor for a good read. (I did buy the book).

A pest control professional should spend time appreciating nature and understand that much of nature is beneficial or simply beautiful, something to be preserved.
Recently I have discovered BBC Nature, a website that contains some of the most beautiful and fascinating videos. Check out this video of monkeys in a natural hot spring in the mountains of Japan.

Pest Control Customer in Love
Love never ceases to amaze. It will drive a person to acts of courage, decency and compassion, nurturing and sacrifice impossible for those who do not get struck by Cupid’s arrow.

I’m not exaggerating. You need to hear the fear and frustrating, the anxiety and despiration of those suffering from pests that drive them wild.

Children’s Day Reflections for the Pest Control Profession
On a recent trip to The Baltic Republics of Europe, my wife and I accidently stubbled upon a beautifully festive day, Children’s Day. We were at the University of Tartu, where my wife, Karen, was speaking at a molecular biology convention. Each day in Tartu was a happy day, filled with students and tourists enjoying the endless sunlight in late May and early June. The people were warm and friendly, enjoying light conversation and leisure time with family and friends… and great local cider.

Lessons from the Hospitality Industry for Pest Control
Chocolates Under the Pillow? “Chocolates Under the Pillow Aren’t Enough” is the title of a book I discovered by Jonathan Tisch, the CEO of Loews Hotels. I loved what Jonathan Tisch had to say. His words are very similar to those of Howard Schultz, CEO of Starbucks, someone I admire greatly. I would hope that someday, people would think of me as the person, and of Hearts Pest Management as the company, that brought that type of total quality mentality to the pest control industry. I know we are not yet there, but we are trying with all our heart.
