Hearts Pest Management, Inc., owned by Gerry Weitz (structural and agricultural pest control operator) and his wife, Karen Shaw, Phd. Molecular Biology/Genetics, provides pest control services for the residences, landscapes and businesses in the southern California, that is, within San Diego, Riverside, San Bernardino and Orange County.

With senior management experience at two of the best run American companies, ADP and Ernst & Young, Gerry evolved a philosophy of pest control unique to the industry, creating the “consulting pest control technician.”  Karen brings to Hearts 30 years of scientific management and research from internationally known pharmaceuticals and bio-techs.  This positions Hearts as a company with extensive knowledge of biochemical interactions and human safeguard systems.

Growth and Expansion

Together, Gerry and Karen have grown Hearts to become a major presence in the Southern California pest control marketplace. As of January 2008, Hearts has grown nearly 1000% since purchasing the business in January 2002. Hearts has strived to retain the personal touch of a small entity in relations with customers and employees, while striving for excellence and consistency of service as the organization expands.

Hearts provides much more than basic spray and go ant and spider control service. Hearts has always believed in providing full and free consultation and inspection to educate customers, properly scope their concerns and to provide complete solutions, not band-aids. 

Hearts  provides comprehensive pest control specialties in: organic pest control, rodent, bee, gopher and bird control, bed bug and mite control.  Hearts has also become one of the few pest control companies in this region licensed to perform both structural and landscape services.  Our landscape services include solutions for fruiting and ornamental trees and shrubs as well as for lawns.

Hearts is a proud member in good standing with the San Diego Better Business Bureau and the local chamber of commerce. Hearts is also a member of the Symbiot Pest Management Network, which allows companies to establish national and regional contracts, while working with trusted local companies.

Company History and Milestones

2008

Hearts Pest Management extends service into South Orange County, including the towns of Aliso Viejo, Anaheim, Dana Point, Huntington Beach, Irvine, Laguna, Newport Beach, San Clemente, San Juan Capistrano, Costa Mesa. 

Service offerings have expanded to include extensive mite control, weed abatement, weed control and fertilization, using nature's best fertilizer, worm castings.  All Hearts Pest Management technicians have now been trained by the EcoWise Certified organization.

Hearts Pest Management speaks out in support of AB 2716 sick time benefits for full-time workers!

2007

Hearts Pest Management extends service throughout Riverside County and neighboring San Bernardino County.

Hearts becomes the prime source for knowledgable and comprehensive control of mites that result from bird and rat infestations.

Hearts Pest Management becomes the first and only company in southern California (south of San Francisco) to obtain the EcoWise Certified designation of recognized IPM (integrated pest management) companies devoted to ecological best practices.

Hearts Pest Management rolls out a comprehensive program for bed bugs, including both treatment and maintenance programs, as well as education and training for hotel / motel and other residential facility staff, for the prevention and early detection of bed bugs.  Training is available in both English and Spanish!

Hearts Pest Management gains county wide recognition with a full page article by David Berliner, in the San Diego Union-Tribune, describing a corporate culture focused on employee development, motivation and support, and an industry leading consultant, Lloyd Smigel, who describes Hearts Pest Management as having "among the highest morales I've ever seen" in 30 years in the industry.

2006

Hearts Pest Management rolls out organic landscape, tree and shrub treatments across San Diego County.  Non-organic services are also available.

Hearts acquires pest control certification as a provider of Mauget proprietary tree injection treatments.  This service allows Hearts to both fertilize and treat for pests with a "closed-system" that will not cause harm to the environment typcial with wind drift of pesticidies.  This new and unique pest control service is being introduced throughout our service areas of San Diego and the neighboring Temecula and Murietta region.

Hearts relocates to a larger facility in Rancho Bernardo, CA, doubling call center capacity and with instand access to major highways to major highways to improve customer response times.

Hearts begins rollout of its “Focus on Organics” reduced and minimum risk pest control program for home and garden, with consultation and services available for non-pesticide control for pests in the environment.

2004

Hearts obtains agricultural extermination licensure, for treatment of landscapes, parks, public right-of-ways and institutions such as school landscapes. Hearts expands services to the Temecula / Murrieta region.

Hearts obtains Killer Bee Certification and conducts full bee removal, honeycomb extraction and repair services.

GPS Tracking Software: Hearts fleet installs electronic tracking, providing exact information to answer questions about dates and times spent on any jobsite! Tracking such factors as roadway speed also helps us to be good citizens, by bringing driving speeds down. Also, by traveling at lower speeds, we save gas that helps to keep your prices down!

Hearts moves to a state-of-the-art facility, creating a rapid response customer call center.

2003

Hearts converts to pest control industry leading PestPac Internet software, permitting technicians to dispatch directly from their homes to jobsites in their communities, achieving rapid customer service from technicians operating in their own communities.

2002

Services expanded to all San Diego County. Hearts enters contracts with major home warranty companies for extermination and pest control services.

January 2002

A simple request for gopher services from Hearts Pest Management by a passionate gardener, Gerry Weitz, led to the incorporation and purchase of Hearts Pest Management.

1994

Hearts Pest Management is established and begins servicing Poway and Escondido, with a "hearts' desire" to own a pest control company.
